Will He Really Give You The
Desires Of Your Heart?
<>
There are passages in the Bible that have been sorely misunderstood.
The misunderstanding - the error - has been taught, and those who are
unlearned in the scriptures have embraced these errors to their own
hurt. Take a few minutes to consider one of these passages with me.>
<>
Psalms 37:4-5 Delight yourself also
in the Lord, and He will give you the desires of your heart. Commit
your way to the Lord, trust also in Him, and He shall bring it to pass. >
<>
I have heard this verse shamefully used to encourage believers to call
on God to satisfy carnal desires. This verse was never meant to be
scriptural grounds for you to claim the desires of the carnal nature or
the luxuries of this world. The scriptures teach that desire for the
things of the world (1 John 2:15-17) or riches>(1 Timothy 6:9-10) can be a snare. Our hearts
desire should be different.
<>
First we are to delight ourselves
in the Lord. God - His goodness, His majesty, His ways, etc……- these
are >
the
things that excite us.
Second we find God placing His desires in our heart.
His desires become our desires.
Third we allow Him to lead - we put the steering
wheel of our life in His hands.
Fourth we trust our most able and faithful God to
bring it to pass, even though we may see no evidence of it.
Fifth we see it happen. Hard work and miracles and
time, any or all, may be a part of bringing it about.
<>
Here is another verse that speaks of the same thing. >
<>
Philippians 2:13 For it is God who
works in you both to will and to do for His good pleasure.>
<>
God works in you and me as we delight ourselves in Him. He causes us to
will His good pleasure and to do His good pleasure. Our part is to be
sure that He is our delight.>
